In today’s world, one of the most common terms which we come across almost daily is Global Warming. Global warming is now part of everyday news and we see the growing concern of the countries on taking measures to control global warming. But what is Global warming? It is the increase of the earth’s average temperature and its projected extension in the coming years. The extraordinary rate of global warming taking place today is by all accounts due to the amount of greenhouse gases being discharged into the earth’s atmosphere.
Moreover, global warming or the increase in global temperature can lead to natural calamities including sea level rise and radical changes to the pattern of rainfall resulting in floods and drought. Global warming can easily result in the rise of sea levels. This is due to the melting of the Polar ice caps along with the glaciers that have started contributing to higher and warmer sea levels. It is estimated that by the end of the century, sea levels can rise from 4 inches to a high of about 40 inches if measures are not taken to control the rise in earth’s temperature.
Presently, there is a continuing political debate on what action, if any, should be taken to help lower the factors leading to global warming. How these measures will fare and contribute to the long-term maintenance of our planet, though, remains to be seen and also remains a great threat to the whole life system in the form of Global Warming.
